- Free case assessment. For most situations, a free phone consultation with a lawyer is available. The lawyer will not offer legal advice or free legal work during the free consultation. Rather, the consultation with a lawyer gives you a chance to meet the lawyer and helps the lawyer understand your legal situation, so the lawyer can give you an estimate of the legal fees necessary to accomplish your goals.

10 things that make Minneapolis surprizingly awesome
My wife, infant son, and I have been on vacation in Seattle this week. Our friends Ricci and Eliacin (and Catie and Gabrielito) have been very hospitable.  Seattle is an amazing city. It usually ranks high on lists of coolest cities. When folks think about nifty cities in America, their minds usually go to places on the west coast (like Seattle, Portland, or San Francisco) or on the east coast (like NYC, Boston, or Washington D.C.). Occasionally, they might even think of a city in the midwest » MORE »
Comb-over asshattery
Ross Douthat is one of those names I see, usually in the context of another lefty taking a swipe, but someone I’ve never read before. Well, now I have. My loss. Anyhow, just to save you the click, George Bailey was a soft-headed Democrat who let the people of Bedford Falls buy homes they couldn’t afford. Banker Potter was the more realistic of the two financiers, and the dude got  bum rap! Douthat’s movie review just keeps getting dumber and dumber the longer you read it. Mostly it’s more cover » MORE »
Life in the Brooks House 1872-2008
One of the things that struck me when first coming here as a tourist was the Brooks House tower. I've always loved towers, so fairy-tale reminding. And with the Dickens era feeling of downtown during the holidays, with snow swirling in the wind, I fell in love with Brattleboro. Some years later, I moved here. And some years after that, I moved into the Brooks House. From the Connecticut River Joint Commission on its national historic registry nomination value:"Brooks House was one of the large » MORE »
ACL 2008: Soul Sunday
Uncle T continues with Austin City Limits, Day 2, delving into gospel, RnB, soul, and funk. I hear a lot in the Lee Boys that reminds me of the Allman Brothers at their peak, and I'm aware that the Allmans took a lot of influence from black southern blues. The Lee Boys Alvin Lee of the Lee Boys Fantastic set from this Jacksonville, FL band of brothers. I’d never heard of these guys before this set, but was totally ecstatic about them after it ended. They played a propulsive fusion of funk, go » MORE »
A Sermon I Would Like to Preach
If I could preach a sermon on the Sunday before Election Day, this is what I would say. Today’s teaching is entitled “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Godliness”. The subtitle is “The Theology of America.” While I will touch on numerous contemporary political and social issues, a few things will be off limits. Specifically, I will not be mentioning any candidate, party or contemporary political figure. Indeed, I will not even mention my own party affiliation. And I will not talk about voting. » MORE »
Autism’s Not Like the Measles
If you haven’t already read Measles not worth the risk, an October 6th op-ed by epidemiologist John Laurence Kiely, go here. Kiely recalls having the measles and then pneumonia, and being hospitalized, and under an oxygen tent, and his mother’s distraught face. But, as he notes: Most Americans don’t remember those days. Why? Because four years after I got sick, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began a mass measles immunization program. By 2000, the number of reported cases of mea » MORE »
